Mara's force ghost comforts her farmboy and her baby in the wake of her death. Not a scene in the book...but there better be a force ghost at some point, man. I've certainly not had my fill of the ex-Emperor's Hand.
......
..........
.............*sniff*
Who else is depressed by Mara's death? The passage, or rather sentence, when Luke feels her death got me in particular... "In the cockpit of his StealthX heading for Hapes, Luke Skywalker felt a hand brush his hair, and as he reached out involuntarily to touch it, he knew his world had ended"
or this bit... There was an insulating numbness holding Luke together, and it took triple repetition to penetrate it-the first to stop him thinking that he hadn't even said goodbye to Mara and was asleep when she left;the second to stop him racking his brain for the last words he said to her, which he couldn't recall; and the third to stop him from seeing in his mind's eye her scribbled note that he'd balled up and used to plug a hole in his cockpit console, and that he had now lovingly smoothed flat and would keep with him for the rest of his life. Gone hunting for a few days.Don't be mad at me, farmboy...
SO.SAD.
On another note, seems to me from Ben's musings about the Empire that he'll have a hand in creating the Fel run empire we see in the Legacy comics. I hope. Because then he wouldn't be Darth Krayt. If he's Darth Krayt, somebody's gonna feel my wrath. Rar.
Anyhoo, boo DelRey for killing my favorite EU character, using my least favorite EU character(I've hated him since the early NJO days.He went from a whiny pansy to a sith, well, that sort of language is inappropriate. Darth Caedus has to go!). This is worse than when they killed off Anakin. And dammit, they found her body, which by Scifi/comic rules means she's far more likely to stay dead.
I'd rant more about how the Jedi have become morally ambivalent and how I hate Jacen, but really, it hasn't sunk in yet. Even though I knew it was coming. I think I'll go work on my Mara sculpey statue, which I started a couple weeks ago. Guess it's kinda a monument now.
omword. Ben in this is the very picture of dispair. *sobs* And the Jedi are so busy being Light blinded that they've forgotten what is Good. *growls* I'm not reading that blasted book anytime soon. I'm still writing Mara fanfic, too.

I know. Arrrrgh.....y'know what, since the end of NJO, star wars has ceased to be star wars. The writers have lost track of the fundamental good vs. evil battle, and made everything morally ambiguious. They're undercutting the saga.
This makes me SO glad I decided to stop after New Jedi Order. Even in that series, they managed to tick me off royally for the stuff they did, and only Aaron Allston's picking up the series and actually NOT depressing me made it worth continuing (and it did get better from that point on). But if they're turning Jacen evil, after ALL HE WENT THROUH in NJO, PLUS killing Mara Jade, after all SHE went through...no, this franchise is not worth it anymore. I aggree with my friend who doesn't call it the "Expanded Universe", but the "Exploited Universe".
Despite all that, this is a charming pic. You can really see the emotion on the faces.
Oh,believe me, I agree. If I could just kick my masochistic habit of reading their repeated attempts to make it "edgier" by making characters dark, evil, tormented or dead, I'd be golden. The problem is, I care about these characters because of their past adventures(Thrawn Trilogy and X-wing series, anyone?) and I just can't force myself to stop checking in on them.
It's not star wars anymore, though. They've made, for instance, Luke fall so many times or at least stagger, than it completely undercuts the original trilogy. The inconsistent morality, or downright moral ambiguity of some characters is repugnant. I mean, okay, Mara doesn't recognize Jacen's dark sider tendencies until Sacrifice? She convinces Luke that Jacen just has a secret lover? After being the emperor's hand, and after being the one who finally gives Luke the kick to the head he needed to shake the influence of the dark side of Nirauan? Really? What the hell?
If it were up to me, I'd strike everything after the Thrawn trilogy from canon(except the xwing books that follow it, because, y'know, they rock, and can be refit into a new continuity easily enough) and then start over. Screw the NJO, the LOTF and all that nonsense with the Killiks. Star Wars is a full galaxy. You can have conflict aplenty for your characters without resorting to imperial flavors of the month, or planet destroyers(I hate you, sun crusher! HATE!)...there's endless possibilities in this sort of universe. You don't have to kick Han and Leia in the ribs every five seconds with something angsty happening to one of their children. You don't have to parallel the prequels obsessively. You don't have to kill MAra, or Anakin, or Chewie. Argh....I could go on and on. It's sad.
This is just beautiful...and so, so sad. Ben absolutely breaks my heart here, and Luke... Poor, poor little broken family. And how bad is it going to be for them again when the truth finally becomes clear...? I'm not entirely sure I'm going to keep reading...from here on, it'll just be a rehash of Palpatine's manipulations and assassinations, just under a different Darth... **shakes head** Beautiful drawing, with emotions so beautifully conveyed...

"Hear me, Baby? Hold together..." Han Solo, ANH
Nope. They address that specifically....Luke says something along the lines of "so she chose not to fade after all"...Ben/Luke(?) says that she did it so that they'd have a clue as to who did her in. I think it's rather dumb, though. I mean, Ben's a fairly intelligent kid. He knows Lumiya and Jacen were working together. he was with Lumiya at the time of his mother's death. Jacen "shows up" right after Ben, and Ben even notices this is odd. Why hasn't he put the pieces together? Why didn't Amra at least leave a message somewhere so Luke would know that Jacen was totally a sith now? Why did she hesitate when Jacne created the illusion of ben? i mean, she knew it was Jacen, and as a jedi, would be able to sense that it wasn't Ben anyway? Everyone in the Star Wars EU have suddenly become morons. Dumbing down characters in order to forward plots=not cool. Not cool at all.

this is the most worst part after anakin (solo) and chewie's death!!! maybe we should just kill the writer?
